Every time I meet someone curious about my work, I hear questions like: “What kind of coaching do you do?”, “What does it involve?” and, ultimately, “How will I know it can work for me?”.
To address these common queries, I have prepared the following list of answers to those questions, both typical and unique, to help you better understand my coaching approach and determine if it’s right for you.
You are talking about “evidence-based coaching” as your coaching framework. What’s that?
Evidence-based coaching integrates various coaching methodologies and techniques that are grounded in scientific research and empirical evidence. This framework ensures that my coaching practices are informed by the best available evidence from research in psychology, neuroscience, and other relevant fields, rather than relying solely on intuition or personal experience.
Are you a business coach or an executive coach?
Neither. As a motivation coach using evidence-based methodologies, I focus on helping individuals harness their internal drivers to enhance leadership effectiveness, decision-making, and resilience. In contrast, business or executive coaches, while also using structured approaches, often provide more directive advice aimed at improving organizational performance and leadership.
I was coached by a life coach in the past. How is your work different?
Unlike life coaches who address a broad spectrum of personal and life issues, my work centers on evidence-based methodologies tailored to professional growth and organizational success. This specialized approach distinguishes my role from the more general guidance provided by life coaches.
You’re saying you don’t give advice. So, is your coaching like therapy?
No, my coaching is not like therapy. While therapy often digs into past experiences to understand present behaviors, my coaching starts with the present that informs the desirable future, helping you develop actionable strategies, build resilience, and achieve your goals.
How can I know that coaching really works?
Coaching helps create new positive neural pathways, which leads to lasting, sustainable change. This means, it builds capacity, rather than dependency. And research shows that anyone can change their brain with focused effort.
How can coaching help me to be successful?
Coaching helps build crucial connections between various parts of the brain, which helps the brain increase your focus and clarity, as well as make more effective decisions and recover from stress.
I just want to focus on getting things done. Why do we need to look at vision, values etc.?
We have two networks in our brain, one that focuses on moving things forward, and one that focuses on our motivations and deeper meaning. Neuroscience research shows that when things are personally relevant, we engage more enthusiastically and follow through to make even difficult changes.
We need to explore our “being” as well as our “doing”, or we risk losing the “why” of our actions.
I have tried coaching before and it didn’t work. How could it be different this time?
Every coaching approach is unique because it blends the coach’s methodology, experience, and personality. It is based on a unique relationship between you and the coach. The best way to figure out if we’re a good match is to try a coaching session. This will give you a taste of my coaching and can help us determine the chance of your success.
I’m too exhausted to even think about starting a coaching program. Can you help me?
I’ve been there and understand how overwhelming exhaustion can feel. My coaching program is designed to meet you where you’re at, starting with small, manageable steps to help you regain your spark and clarity. First, we’ll focus on your well-being, ensuring you feel supported and motivated before tackling bigger challenges.
I’m not comfortable with change. Is coaching still for me?
Coaching is about creating new neural pathways and the best way to do this is to step outside your comfort zone, try and fail, and be willing to experiment. And if you can have fun while doing it, so much the better; it relaxes the brain and makes change easier.
I need an immediate solutions, not just “talking”. What can you do for me?
When you’re in crisis mode, it’s crucial to address your immediate needs first. I can help you stabilize and manage the current crisis effectively. Once we’ve dealt with the urgent issues, we’ll gradually shift our focus to long-term strategies that prevent future burnout.
I fear this coaching, like my previous experiences, will end in failure. How can you work with me to ensure that I succeed in your coaching program?
Coaching can provide you with strategies to shift your perspective on failure, turning it into a learning opportunity. We’ll collaborate on setting practical, incremental goals that pave the way for steady progress and success. This method allows you to focus on achievable steps, ensuring consistent advancement toward your objectives.
I’m afraid that coaching might make me too similar to others and I’ll lose my unique edge. How can we avoid it?
Preserving your individuality is one of my core commitments. My coaching is highly personalized and designed to amplify your unique strengths and perspectives. Together, we’ll ensure that you stand out even more by focusing on and enhancing what makes you uniquely you.
I’m worried about sharing personal information. How can I be sure my privacy will be protected?
Your privacy and confidentiality are my top priorities. I adhere to the highest ethical standards of the professional coaching organizations I’m a member of (ICF and EMCC) to ensure your information is secure. Our sessions are a safe space for you to share openly without any concerns.
Why, instead of asking all of these questions, can’t you just tell me what to do?
As opposed to giving advice, as a coach I hold space for you where your brain is open to visioning, growth, and positive change. You are more inclined to act on the action plan you developed yourself than on external advice.
Why are you asking me questions about my body? What does that have to do with anything?
Our brain is not just in our head. We have neurons in our heart and gut, and every part of our nervous system actually participates in processing information. When we only deal with “head” stuff we miss major aspects of your actual intelligence and insight.
