CORE IDEA
Don’t give in to the too-easy-to-be-true offers for self-improvement. Focus on your long-term goals and objectives, and from that perspective, evaluate every offer for self- or business improvement.
In a world saturated with “miracle cure” offers, it’s easy to fall prey to promises of quick success. As a coach, I’ve seen firsthand how these one-size-fits-all solutions bombard female entrepreneurs, offering temporary fixes that don’t align with their unique goals and vision.
Reflecting on Offers
Recently, a successful female entrepreneur asked my opinion on a training offer that promised to add a new direction to her business. My response was simple but probing: “What will you use that newly found solution for? How will you monetize it? What will be the return on your money and time investment? How does it fit into your business vision, your end game?”
These questions aim to provoke deep reflection, not just for my friend but for anyone considering such offers. Instead of getting swept up in the hype, it’s crucial to critically evaluate whether these solutions genuinely serve your long-term vision. It’s not about dismissing new opportunities outright but about evaluating them through the lens of your long-term goals and vision.
Here’s my firm stance: I will never give you a fish. I will never, ever sell you a fishing rod, a boat, not even a hook so you can catch that fish. I won’t teach you to fish (even though I easily could). None of those quick-fix solutions have a place in my professional coaching arsenal.
I will help you see that YOU are able to get the hook, the rod, even the boat, and catch the fish YOURSELF. And it will be EXACTLY the fish that you really, really want and need.
Empowerment Over Quick Fixes
The crux of my approach is this: It is not about a one-time solution or about a missing skill that, if you’d only learn, would make you successful, prosperous, and invincible. We usually aren’t too keen on applying solutions someone else came up with. The ideas we follow up on are the ones we come up with ourselves.
Wouldn’t you prefer using your inner wisdom, experience, and resourcefulness to chart your own course to success? A solution tailored to your unique strengths and aligned with your personal and business goals? This is far more effective than following somebody else’s 5-step program, which often feels disconnected from your reality.
What to Do Instead
Ok, Bozena, don’t tell me what not to do, but what to do instead?
Really? You want my advice? After telling you I don’t believe you will act on it?
Instead of seeking generic advice, focus on your end goal. Assess whether the help offered by an expert will bring you significantly closer to your goal or simply add another skill to your already broad skillset.
Side Note on Tools
You may see me sharing worksheets and other tools I usually use with my clients. Don’t think about them as advice in the form of a stand-alone product. Consider them enhancements for those already on their way to achieving their goals. Keeping on with my fishing metaphor: they are simply upgrades for the content of the tackle box of an experienced fisherman. 🙂
